Anyhow, as long as I can come back to "modern programming language", I am already satisfied. Some people might feel the new job did not offer me good enough to switch over, I second that. However, I will not describe this as a sacrifice or something, as I have mentioned before, I want to experience "modern programming language" once more, therefore, this is the step I am willing to take.
The problem I am actually experiencing now is actually not company-dependent. It is more towards the IT industry as a whole. I cannot say for the whole world's IT, but as far as Malaysia IT industry is concerned, majority IT jobs failed to offer a clear career path. As of now, I am starting to think is there even a career path to start with? A lot of people in IT jump like hyperactive kangaroo from one company to another, just for the sake of moving up, well, not the career path, but the salary mark. Sad to say, this is the trend in Malaysia's IT scene . There is no proper guideline for an IT person's career path when compared to jobs like auditors, where promotion is almost guaranteed after certain years of service. Up until here, I can see an advantage for IT industry people in this case - It makes people hungry for a higher position, and those that willing to make the initial move may have the chance to win.
So, why career path is so important?
The answer for the question above is simple - Money, probably for fame and status too, but money still plays the most important role. Heck, even if there is no promotion to a higher ranking, as long as the salary mark goes up, who cares? I doubt no one care what their job title is, as long as the pay is good. Thus, one might see a fresh graduate from IT field might get a job with the title "Software Engineer", while a ten-year experience person might also share the same job title (Maybe with a "Senior" in front of the job title). Therefore, to cut things short: Career path = Money. So when career path is not seen, money is not seen, and when money is not seen, the kangaroo hops to another place that offers better money.
Enough for the career path now. Maybe I should talk about the pay. Even with one IT person can move up the so-called imaginary career path for IT, the salary might still not be able to catch up with other industries. A manager in finance, probably will earn more than a manager in IT And without a clear career path, reaching the managerial level is almost like touching heaven? perhaps?
So, to summarize it:
1) Hard to promote to higher ranking.
2) Even if managed to reach higher ranking, overall IT industry does not offer a salary that can match with other industries.
Advice for myself as of now:
1) Need to get myself certified.
2) Every man for himself.
3) Give up? Not at the moment.
Of course, there is still much to say, however it is getting late, I shall continue next time...
